Ceilings and Shadows

A reflection on light and dark.
Man painting ceiling
Posted November 5, 2012

The ceiling was painted an unbecoming grey colour making the room heavy and dark.

A repaint was required and I set to work with a will.

For best results good preparation was important and so the ceiling was washed with sugar soap then clean water followed by taping the edges to prevent paint going where it was not wanted, brushing the trim areas and rolling over the larger areas.

My head took on a permanent backward tilt and the muscles in my neck began to protest.

One coat was finished but patchy grey still showed through. A second coat was applied and the room was lighter and brighter with a fresh new look. However in some lights there is a hint of the grey underneath. Not enough to warrant another coat of paint but enough to cast a slight hint.

When Jesus forgives us it is not like a lick of fresh paint over our grey ceilings.

Total transformation so no trace of sin remains.

Don’t imagine shades of grey where Jesus sees none. His cleansing in our lives makes us ‘pure white’.
