‘Water drop moments’ when you can be a blessing to someone else.

A chorus from years ago plays over and over in my mind.

Make me a blessing, make me a blessing
Make me a blessing to someone today…

As I hum the tune I wonder what a blessing actually looks like.  How do you recognise one? What disguise does it wear? I suspect a blessing is not so much a huge event as a simple, ordinary, everyday thing, a bit like a seed of hope sprouting, a word of encouragement offered, an arm wrapped around someone in distress.

Jesus said that a cup of water given in his name would be a blessing to both the giver and the receiver. A cup of water! So basic, so ordinary, so everyday. To be honest, I think a lot of what I do is not a cupful but more like a drop of water. Yet even a drop is an offering worth making. Ask any thirsty plant or seed about the importance of a drop of water!

So I’m looking now, on the search for ‘water drop moments’ when, by a word, a gesture or a smile, I can be a blessing to someone else. Lord, please let it be so.
