WM Put That On Your Resumé Visual Poem

Our visual poem, 'Put That On Your Resume', is a celebration of the women of faith outlined in the Bible. Who could you show this to, to bless and honour the women of the world?

We nobly preside as ministers of churches
In the tradition of Phoebe, diakonos of the church of Cenchrea
In Romans 16:1–2

'Put That On Your Resume' is a visual poem featuring people throughout The Salvation Army speaking the names of the women of the Bible and the lineage that they leave for us today. Use this video to celebrate women and proclaim the message of God's grace and freedom to all who hear it! Find the full text at the bottom of the page.

This visual poem was produced by three women: Poetess Valerie Geer (Christians for Biblical Equality and House of Ezer) with her original poem 'Put That On Your Resumé: A Poem Celebrating the Leadership and Initiative of Women', Rosy Keane from The Salvation Army New Zealand, Fiji, Tonga and Samoa (NZFTS) Women's Ministries and Jessica Keane, from The Salvation Army NZFTS Creative Ministries' Department. This video was commissioned to celebrate 125 years of women's suffrage in New Zealand, in 2018.

Celebrating 125 years of Suffrage with #OurWomenPreach

On September 19th 1893, New Zealand became the first country in the world to gain women's suffrage. During the 1800s, The Salvation Army partnered with local and nationwide Woman's Christian Temperance Unions, churches and supporting activists to redress the balance and fight for women's right to vote around the world. We saw this as a tool of evangelism.

To celebrate 125 years of suffrage in 2018, The Salvation Army Women's Ministries urged The Salvation Army New Zealand to fill our platforms with all-female preachers on Sundays either side of suffrage, with the hashtag #OurWomenPreach!

Commissioner Yvonne Westrupp, previously The Salvation Army New Zealand, Fiji, Tonga and Samoa Women's Ministries' President writes, 'On September 19th, 2018, New Zealand celebrated 125 years since a petition of nearly 32,000 signatures was presented and we became the first self-governing country to grant women the vote. The petition is on display as part of the He Tohu exhibition and you can see who signed here - I am proud that my grandmother Elizabeth Medland was one of those women. I encourage you to show this video in your Corps or centre, or maybe think of ways to include it in your programmes. If you are not in New Zealand you can still use the video as an acknowledgement of the influence of women.'

A continuing tradition of suffrage

The Salvation Army has a long and fruitful relationship with freeing women from the 'traditions of man' and opening the doors to true mutuality in the Body of Christ. The Salvation Army's international movement has always sought equality - with co-founder Catherine Booth petitioning in the 1800s for women in the pulpit, through her pamphlet Female Ministry; or, Woman's Right to Preach the Gospel (download the PDF below).

We commission women as preachers and pastors, and continue to testify to the power of the Son, setting us free and removing every impediment for women to join the ranks of the faithful: to pray, prophesy, preach and proclaim the message of the Gospel in power. We urge you to share the video as a tool of continuing emancipation for all women, from the yoke of every slavery.

'Inā kei te mohio koe ko wai koe, I anga mai koe i hea, kei te mohio koe. Kei te anga atu ki hea. If you know who you are and where you are from, then you will know where you are going.’ - Māori Proverb
