The HERalds Podcast

Welcome to The HERalds Podcast, where you can hear the stories of wahine toa - mighty women - to spur you on in your mission with Jesus in the everyday.

Proudly produced by The Salvation Army Women's Ministries of New Zealand, Fiji, Tonga and Samoa, each episode of The HERalds Podcast you can join your host Rosy Keane as we explore different challenges, triumphs and innovative leadership that God is writing throughout the mission of our Army and world. Psalm 68:11 says 'The women who proclaim the Good News are a mighty army'. We are those women, and we are that Army.

The HERalds Podcast: Ep 4 with Mavis Millar | Navigating homelife and stars, being called to community and choosing Salvationism.

In this episode, we hear from Mavis Millar – author, mathematician, sailor and Salvationist soldier for 71 years. Born in 1932, Mavis’ love of numbers translated into her studying to be a statistician in the 1950’s as one of only two women in her class. Balancing family life and a 200 strong children’s ministry, Mavis then gained her Ocean Master’s license and has sailed one hundred times across the Cook Strait. She has navigated the entirety of New Zealand, praying from port to port as she went, and speaks with passion about The Salvation Army as a place where she has been called to mission and to be present in community.
