Together We Build: Join our mission to build three homes destroyed in Indonesia's earthquakes
The Salvation Army Indonesia Territory was hit by devastating natural disasters in 2018 and is struggling to rebuild lost homes and livelihoods. Through our project Together We Build, The Salvation Army New Zealand, Fiji, Tonga and Samoa are choosing to stand with them. Will you join us?
'I could not stand. I could do nothing about it. I heard loud noises behind me, and I saw that the wall was cracked as the ground split. Furniture was falling everywhere but I did not understand any of it.' - Captain Susana Assah in her Together We Build testimony
On September 28th last year, a magnitude 7.5 earthquake struck Indonesia’s Central Sulawesi province, triggering a tsunami that killed 2000 and displaced more than 1.5 million. The Salvation Army, known locally as 'Bala Keselamatan', had a major presence in the clean up but their work isn't done. Many Corps still lie buried in rubble and officers' (pastors) homes remain sites of destruction.
The Together We Build project outline
In our Together We Build project, Women's Ministries around the territory is joining together with the wider Salvation Army to raise money to rebuild three officers' quarters in Central Sulawesi.
Our target is $44,500 NZD by the end of 2019, enough for three homes.
This project will be spearheaded by Women's Ministries groups, but we are encouraging all groups, centres and Corps to join us. We also welcome personal donations from individuals so that our target can be achieved. Would you or your group consider making a financial gift to the Together We Build project over 2019? Contact your local Corps Officer or email us on firstname.lastname@example.org for any help with donating.
Commissioner Jennifer Walker, Territorial President of Women's Ministries in Indonesia Territory (Pemimpin Pelayanan Wanita Teritori), writes with grateful thanks in anticipation of your efforts and prayer. We are looking forward to updating her team as the year goes on, assuring our sisters and brothers that it is together we build, and they are not alone.
