God and Father's Cards Printables
We have created this resource for you to use to help people celebrate fathers, father-figures and God our Father this Father's Day - and provide space for tamariki and family without earthly fathers to reflect on our Father in heaven.
Father's Day and Mother's Day are a time of celebration, reflection, hope and joy for many. They can be a way to uplift the mother and father figures in our lives, and reflect on the attributes of God that are reflected in our mothers' and fathers' love.
We also acknowledge that Father's and Mother's Day can be times of fraught tension and disappointment, as the love we hoped to receive from our parental figures might have fallen short. We have many children in our midst who need space to see God as their Father, while their own father is absent. For Mother's Day, we created the We Celebrate She cards of thankfulness and remembrance.
And this is why we have created our God and Father's Day cards.
An old and new description of dads
On the front and back of the two designs are some of the aspects of God our Father's love for us, alongside an image of fathers carrying their children.
We have words like compassionate, comforting, tender, listener, gentle, nurturing - words that sometimes our culture denies men, fathers and God as descriptors. We believe these cards provide a chance to discuss these aspects of God our Father and father figures around us this Father's Day.
What about Father's Day for those without earthly fathers?
'I have always loved you, I continue to show you my constant love.' Jeremiah 31:3 Good News Translation
How do we provide space for our tamariki wihout earthly fathers present on Father's Day? How do we point to more of who God is and how he loves us each?
Inside our God and Father's card is 'I have always loved you, I continue to show you my constant love.' and the words 'Your Father in heaven loves you.'
We hope these cards can be paired with a sensitive message from parents, pastors and others that God is our heavenly Father who loves and celebrates us.
- What could your children's church or Corps do to amplify this message and create space for those who miss their fathers, or have never known them?
- What questions or reflections are appropriate for your Corps members?
- Is there a sermon or an image that could open conversations without glossing over a father's absence or being trite?
