The United Nations has set 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as 'an urgent call for action by all countries - developed and developing - in a global partnership. They recognize that ending poverty and other deprivations must go hand-in-hand with strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth – all while tackling climate change and working to preserve our oceans and forests.'

We believe that prayer is the biggest action a Christian can begin with. Will you join us in an urgent call for prayer, as we intercede for women and girls through each of the Sustainable Development Goals?

Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns

  • Women are not typically included in decision-making processes of coastal and marine resources, limiting their access. None of the UN targets address gender equality in how marine resources relate to the livelihoods of women and men, including the role such resources can play in food security, employment and poverty reduction.

'O God, in your word you call us to be kaitiaki over this world, and in the way we are currently living please intervene and show us how to live better so that we will not be wasteful and abusive of the precious taonga that you have gifted to us to live in. May we live in a way that we can be sustainable and that we use wisely the resources of this world and be gentle to the environment that we rely on in this world. I pray that we will seek your will for this time and not be lead into sin of wanting more and God you already give us what we need.

Let us not be selfish in our consumption, but to live within our means and to make better choices that impact our whenua. Lord, help our decision makers around the world to invest in better choices like transport that we can make better decisions that will not harm our whenua but help us to protect and empower our people especially our wāhine ma as we influence the next generation. Teach us to be good stewards over your land and to dwell in the beauty of your creation and every detail that you have crafted from the very beginning!

So, Lord bring us together across in unity across Aotearoa and the world to be in tune with Papatūānuku so that we can produce the resources that we need and do this in a way that is honouring and respectful. May we always have grateful hearts for what you provide and know that what you have created as it says in your word: “Then God looked over all he had made, and he saw that it was excellent in every way”. Āmene'
