Like a candle… (3)
Usually we light scented candles for both their smell and the comfy, relaxed mood they produce. Sometimes I light scented candles to help cover up or eliminate a bad smell. (Like when I make a tuna fish sandwich and need to get rid of the smell before my husband complains.) When a candle is lit, it 'sacrifices' its life to give light and a pleasing aroma. Being a shining light for God is not always an easy thing, but the sacrifice is worth the blessing. Most candles burn naturally, others spit and sputter till they put themselves out. What kind of candle are you?
'Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are his dear children. Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us and offered himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God.' Ephesians 5:1-2
'Our lives are a Christ-like fragrance rising up to God. But this fragrance is perceived differently by those who are being saved and by those who are perishing. To those who are perishing, we are a dreadful smell of death and doom. But to those who are being saved, we are a life-giving perfume. And who is adequate for such a task as this?' 2 Corinthians 2:15-16 (NLT).
