Out and About with Julie Campbell

A glimpse into what Commissioner Julie has been talking and thinking about.
What's Julie Up To?
Posted December 2, 2021

Commissioner Julie Campbell has been sitting around the table with some very impressive women (she’s one of them, of course).

As Territorial President of Women’s Ministries, Julie is actively involved in a variety of community groups for women - including the National Council of Women (NCW) and the International Women’s Caucus NZ.

'Participating in these groups provides an opportunity to connect with many other women’s groups and to speak into significant issues impacting women in Aotearoa New Zealand, Fiji, Tonga and Samoa,’ says Julie. ‘It’s an exciting opportunity to hear about the incredible work of many other groups with women and families, to speak of our mission and work and to be a Christian voice.’

The Salvation Army has been involved in the NCW for over 40 years – at both national and local levels. The current areas of focus for the NCW are:

  • Gender equality, and making equality real.
  • Economic independence.
  • Safety, health and wellbeing education.
  • Influence and decision-making.
  • Climate change and sustainability.

Last week, Julie also sat down with members of the International Women’s Caucus, run by the Ministry of Women. The aim of this is to work with other agencies to ensure the UN’s goals for women are furthered in our country. ‘It’s a way we can all work collaboratively on international issues relevant to the interests and well-being of women in New Zealand,’ adds Julie.
