In Fiji, many women will typically get up around 4am, and spend the day serving their family and community ...

‘There is a lot of honour and pride in holding the family together, and that’s a beautiful thing,’ says Director of Women’s Ministries in Fiji, Captain Rochelle Moffatt. ‘Fijian women are incredibly generous and gracious and giving. They are always serving.’

‘Yet when a group of women get together, the noise volume goes up, there is a lot of laughing and dancing and they have a lot of fun.’

A dream was born to give women a special weekend away at camp, where they can have time out and celebrate being together, called Embrace Fiji. It’s also a chance for mothers and daughters to connect outside of daily life, and to ‘drink in’ some good teaching, adds Rochelle. 'They give so much and we wanted to create an opportunity for them to receive in some small way.’

Covid played havoc with original plans for the camp, but the good news is that it will still go ahead when restrictions ease – so watch this space.

Women in our Territory have rallied around our Fijian sisters throughout the year to make this dream a reality. By raising $100 you can get a woman to camp and give her some special experiences away from daily life.

The funding will go an incredibly long way to helping us give back to the women who spend their lives giving to others.

And there is still time! Before the year is up, why not sponsor more women to go to camp?

An easy way to do this is to make your Christmas get together a gold-coin fundraiser for Embrace Fiji. Or get some women together for a simple movie night or café catch up before the Christmas chaos sets in. It’s a great way to celebrate each other, as well as our Fijian sisters.

‘The funding will go an incredibly long way to helping us give back to the women who spend their lives giving to others. A few extra treats that some of this funding will make possible will make the world of difference,’ says Rochelle.
