The Shepherd and His Sheep - Part 8

Reflections on Psalm 23 and God the shepherd.

The Lord is my Shepherd and I am His lamb.

My vision is not all that good when compared to a hawk, an eagle or even a wolf. That is ok most of the time because most of my day has to be spent eating green grass, drinking safe water, sleeping, playing and following the Shepherd.

The day the Shepherd put me on His shoulders was a real eye opener for me. You see sheep are small and close to the ground. We have weak eye sight and a short attention span. When the Shepherd put me on His shoulders, my face was next to His face. My eyes were at the same level as the Shepherd’s so for the first time in my life I had the Shepherd’s view. I could not see as far as He sees, but I had a whole new view of the world.

Now I have a different perspective of the world. It is amazing what I saw when I was not focused on my own immediate needs. No wonder the Shepherd is so wise – He sees.

Dear Shepherd, help me to be one who sees. Even if I have to climb upon a rock or a hill from time to time help me to remember what it was like to see some of the things you see. Then I can make a difference.

“That is what the Scriptures mean when they say, ‘No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him.’ But it was to us that God revealed these things by his Spirit. For his Spirit searches out everything and shows us God’s deep secrets. No one can know a person’s thoughts except that person’s own spirit, and no one can know God’s thoughts except God’s own Spirit. And we have received God’s Spirit (not the world’s spirit), so we can know the wonderful things God has freely given us.” 1 Corinthians 2:9-12 (NLT)
